Recently, I began Fall Down 7 Times Get Up 8 by Japanese author Naoki Higashida. Naoki is a young man with autism. I haven’t completed the book yet, but his writing is beautiful and reaches deep into the soul, breaking down small moments into miracles. Naoki is able to be understood and express the deep inner workings of his mind.
Naoki lives vibrantly, insight-fully and courageously with autism. As many know, people with autism may fall on a spectrum. In Naoki’s case, he has trouble expressing himself verbally in sentences, but is able to work around that using a computer keyboard. He breaks down every day events and challenges, step by step in accordance with his thought patterns. He examines his condition thoughtfully and articulately constructing his own way forward in the world.
